With more than 1.3 million people, the City of San Diego is the eighth largest city in the United States and the second largest in California. The City of San Diego is currently seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will be responsible for assisting with strategic budget development and monitoring, fiscal analytical services, financial planning and expenditure control, the preparation of a variety of studies and reports related to current and long range budgetary needs, operational efficiencies and productivity. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to public service and fiscal responsibility; show a comprehensive understanding of municipal finance and budgeting; and have an extensive knowledge of federal, state and local legislative processes and funding practices. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible municipal accounting experience involving the preparation and audit of budgets. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying. Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related field and seven years of progressively responsible management experience would be a typical way to demonstrate these qualifications. The salary for this position is dependent upon qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The City also offers an attractive benefits package.
