Job Description

Job Title: Accounting Clerk II
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Controller
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / OE3 Represented
Grade: 18

Under general supervision, performs sub professional accounting work involving application of technical accounting principles and procedures required in the maintenance of an accounting system and performs related work as required. Computes, classifies, records, and verifies numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Regular and consistent attendance
• Explains assessed values to property owners
• Prepares and maintains current data on each parcel assessed, including maps of boundaries
• Completes and maintains assessment rolls that show the assessed values and status of all property in the District
• Reviews information about transfers of property to ensure its accuracy, checking basic information on buyers, sellers, and sales prices and making corrections as necessary.
• Identifies the ownership of each piece of taxable property using Real Quest
• Issues notices of assessments
• Prepares purchase orders
• Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches and reports discrepancies, and submits for payment.
• Prepares checks for payment of district expenses.
• Issues bills, invoices, account statements according to established procedures
• Receives and records cash, checks, and electronic funds transfers (EFTs)
• Prepares bank deposits by compiling data from cashiers, verifying and balancing receipts
• Codes data and documents for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures.
• Checks figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
• Assists employees, vendors, or customers by investigating problems and answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
• Monitors status of accounts to ensure that payments are up to date.
• Prepares computer spreadsheets and databases, using MS Excel and Access.
• Performs general office duties such as filing, faxing, scanning, emailing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence
• Complies with federal, state, and district policies, procedures, and regulations
• Operates 10-key calculators to perform calculations
• Operates computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information
• Collaborates and interacts with other agencies
• Other duties as assigned

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years of related experience and/or training; Associate degree in accounting preferred. Accredited Receivables Specialists (ARS) certification and/or Accredited Payables Specialist (APS) certification a plus.
