INTERNAL AUDITOR II
San Mateo County
$5,065-$6,330/month
The Internal Audit Division of the Controller's Office of San Mateo County is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Internal Auditor II. The Internal Audit Division is charged with safeguarding County assets and meeting county, state and federally mandated reporting requirements, accomplished by conducting independent audits, evaluations and analyses to assist County management in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of County departments, programs and functions.
The Internal Auditor II applicant will be able to independently perform the full range of auditing duties including: internal audits of departments and other government entities; financial statement audits to include review and attestation engagements and data analysis using automated tools/techniques; and data analytics and detailed documentation review to ensure the internal control environment at the County is functioning at a high level. Other responsibilities include: achieving buy-in from customers to incorporate internal controls in their processes; preparing audit reports, summary of findings, financial statements and varied fiscal reports; reviewing accounting documents; performing cash and inventory counts; and providing technical support to outside auditors and governmental program auditors.
Typical qualifications for the Internal Auditor II include graduation from a 4-year college in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a closely related field, 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a governmental or public agency and 2 or more years of recent financial/internal auditing experience. Knowledge of general, fund and government auditing and budgeting, and laws regulating public fiscal operations are necessary. The ability to prepare clear financial reports, statements and audit reports and good interpersonal, record keeping, mathematical and statistical skills are also necessary. The ideal candidate will possess a CPA certificate. Creativity, experience using sophisticated data analysis tools and techniques, and experience developing analytics to ensure internal controls are functioning are highly desirable.
