Topic: Working Together to Increase Local Tax Revenues

Speaker: Robin Sturdivant

Description: Explore opportunities within your own agency to increase local tax revenue. The California Department of Tax & Fee Administration oversees several use tax programs that allow local government agencies to receive a direct allocation of local tax that would otherwise be distributed to the countywide pools. In this session you will learn about three separate programs and how you can implement them in your agency. You will also hear from a City Manager who has successfully implemented these programs in one Southern California City. 

You will learn how to coordinate with other departments in your agency to identify:
• Large construction projects that may qualify for a direct local tax allocation
• If a Direct Payment Permit can benefit your agency
• Why it is important to work with your business community to identify potential streams of temporary or one-time revenue
