Experience & Education and License/Certificate
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible professional level municipal budget experience, including two years supervisory experience. Additional experience in purchasing, payroll, or accounting desirable.
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, public administration, economics or a related field.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.
This position under the direction of the Finance Director, plans, organizes and manages assigned activities and operations within the Finance Department; develops, implements, communicates and oversees the citywide operating budget; oversees city-wide payroll processing and reporting; prepares financial reports and documents within area of responsibility; and provides highly responsible, professional and complex analytical assistance to the department's management team.
Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted until Thursday, February 13, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an oral interview. Candidates are required to submit a resume in order for the application package to be considered complete.
Online Skills Testing: Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in online testing (Microsoft Excel 2016). Tentatively scheduled for the week of March 2, 2020.
Oral Interview: Tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future full-time vacancies as they occur.
The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS) Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 13% of pay toward retirement costs.
